Russia has accused Ukraine of violating a U.S.-proposed ceasefire targeting energy infrastructure after a drone strike ignited a massive fire at a Russian oil depot. According to Russia’s TASS news agency, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said Ukraine's actions undermined a 30-day ceasefire agreement discussed between Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump.
Zakharova told Channel One that Washington must now respond to Ukraine’s alleged breach. "How is Washington going to handle this terrorist scum gone mad?" she asked, criticizing Kyiv for what she called a deliberate disruption of peace efforts.
The oil depot, located near Kavkazskaya in Russia's southern Krasnodar region, serves as a vital rail hub for oil transported to the Black Sea via Kazakhstan. Regional authorities confirmed that a Ukrainian drone strike caused the blaze, which has engulfed 3,750 square meters and mobilized 429 firefighters and 174 firefighting units.
Despite the ceasefire aimed at halting attacks on energy sites, the conflict continues to escalate. Ukrainian officials countered with accusations of Russian non-compliance, claiming ongoing strikes on civilian infrastructure, including hospitals and rail facilities.
President Volodymyr Zelenskiy criticized Russia, stating, "Putin’s words are very different from reality," emphasizing the gap between Moscow's pledges and actions on the ground.
Previously, Zakharova labeled the drone strike a “provocation” intended to derail ongoing peace efforts. The fire remains active as crews work to contain the damage.
This flare-up underscores the fragility of ceasefire efforts in the three-year-old war and signals heightened tensions despite international calls for de-escalation.
